Research has shown that obtaining SEL skills is essential in fostering a school environment conducive to academically AND emotionally thriving students. It aids in the healthy development of students' cognitive and emotional self-control.
As a holistic approach, SEL allows educational leaders to train staff to explore their thoughts and emotions, reduce stress, and increase their awareness to create a culture of collaboration while understanding how others may feel—and how this can impact students. Thus leading to a feeling of safety and inclusion for students and staff.
It equips graduates with the tools to make better career decisions and meaningful contributions to society. Grounding SEL in equity allows an acceptance of various backgrounds, differing beliefs, and unique capabilities. This helps students better understand their thoughts and emotions, become more aware, and develop more empathy for others.
